Claudia: Any suggestions on what to do in the evenings in Luang Prabang? |
Lee: There are a few bars in Luang Prabang - The Hive Bar is a favourite of mine but there are a few options. Luang Prabang is not famed for its nightlife. Good food and shopping in one of the night markets are the most popular local activities. |
Claudia: Will I have to book the air-con bus soon (if so, how) or will I get a seat on the one on 2nd Dec if I book it on my arrival on the 1st Dec in Vientiane? |
Lee: Booking the bus the day before should be fine. |
Dom: Do you have details as to where we should book a luxury train service from Kochin to Goa? |
Puneet: Dear Dom, there are no luxury trains to Goa from Cochin. You should book a normal express train (you may book First Class AC if you want a superior class). You can do this online at http://www.makemytrip.com/railways/ or I can do it for you if you prefer.
|
Dom: Is it easy to arrange a day-trip to Hampi from Goa? |
Puneet: Day trip to Hampi - I would not advise that. It would take 7-8 hours by car, and there is only one train from Goa to Hospet. This train, also does not run on all days. So I would advise to skip Hampi and chose some other location, for example Terekhol.

John: Could you let me know if terminal 1 of Chaprapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai is open all night? I have a flight from Delhi arriving at 22:20hrs on the 29th and a flight to Goa leaving at 05:30 on the 30th and was wondering if I could just stay in the airport.
|
Deepa: The international airport terminal is open all night long as flights come in all night long. I do not think the domestic is open. You will need hotel accommodation as far as I know. I will ring the airport and will let you know if I have got it wrong! |
John: Could you tell me the best way to get from the airport to Fort area |
Deepa: Mumbai has a pretty good pre-paid taxi system at the airport, you pay at the counter inside the airport (tell them you want to go to Fort) and that's it, you get a coupon and a taxi number pre-assigned, the guy delivers you to your hotel. It will cost you Rs 500 or so. There is no possibility of a scam, they will lose their license if you complain. There is also private car transfer as an option (If you do want one, I will arrange it, it costs Rs 1500...but I really think it is a waste of your money)

Michelle: Kelsey would also really love to see one of the glaciers, Fox or Franz Joseph, and maybe even take a helihike or heli tour to see the blue ice caves. Which glacier would you recommend we check out? Kelsey is a really avid photographer.
|
Tony: Pancake rocks are definitely worth visiting and Fox Glacier is probably where I would head. You can go with a guide and get up onto the ice if you want to. Why not fly into one of the huts like Fox Glacier and walk out with a guide? That way Kelsey will be able to get some really good shots. |
Michelle: Cave tubing: in Waitomo or Greymouth - any good? Also do you know if these tubing adventures are "gentle" so to say? I am not a very good swimmer and not necessarily a big fan of water, so if it would get choppy etc.. I'd like to know :)
|
Tony: I have done black water rafting at Waitomo with overseas students and it is definitely good fun and not too out there at all. It is mainly floating rather than swimming and all the gear is supplied so no worries there. |
Luke: Have you seen the film "Spirited Away"? I love it! It was interesting and different to many western films. I noticed that Japanese people see things in their own special way. I would love to learn more about how normal Japanese people live, things they enjoy doing etc. That's why I liked your idea of the Family Restaurant. It sounds like somewhere where a local person might stop for coffee or a bite to eat. It would be nice sometimes to find an interesting place to just sit and watch people go by too. |
Mika: Yes I saw spirited away, its one of my favorite movies! There is one place that reminds me of the town in that movie, it is called Kusatsu http://www.kusatsu-onsen.ne.jp/foreign/index.html (I like this site that has a lots of good pictures!) |
