Stephen's Trip to New York
"Been there before"
Stephen is a confident and experienced independent traveller having spent time travelling through Central Asia (“the Stans”) and Sudan amongst other trips. He planned a trip to see a friend in New York in December but considering the distance to get there, and the fact he has visited NYC before, he thought it would be a good idea to stay a while and do a bit of exploration of some authentic American culture. At home in London, Stephen is interested in underground arts and culture, especially music and theatre. He rides his bike everywhere and is not afraid of big city traffic.
Stephen wanted to find out something new about New York, have a true American experience, meeting local people and feel great when he got back. What does he dislike most when travelling? “Being over-organised. Strict timetables. Tourists, obviously!”
Stephen found Tripbod Scott
... and found they had a lot in common
Scott is a political student in New York and actively involved in the arts scene. He lives in Brooklyn and is interested in all things “fringe”. (You wouldn’t catch him dead in a Broadway Musical!) Scott rides his bike around New York and is a great observer of New York life.
What Scott did
Scott and Stephen found it most convenient to discuss plans over a Skype call. They got on so well that Scott offered to guide Stephen around on a bike tour of his turf in Brooklyn. Scott recommended places to sit and watch the world go by with a coffee and a book, alternative dance and performance theatres, bars, restaurants and ways to while away the day like a local in New York.

The Result
Stephen saw a different side of New York compared to his previous visit. He saw a play at an arts theatre recommended by Scott, that even his NYC friend hadn’t heard off, and did some shopping in some cool, urban boutiques in Brooklyn. The highlights were undoubtedly the a trip to the ballet, which was a surprise treat for his friend, and the day spent getting to know New York from the comfort of a bicycle saddle. Stephen’s friend was delighted and amazed with his choice of ballet theatre – which was carefully selected by Scott.
