Ulverston market

27/10/2009

The stalls at this market vary but it is a real local market town where people from surrounding rural area congregate to share news and stories. If its raining it will be a bit quieter. But there is much more to explore in Ulverston so the journey won't be wasted.

Market is open 10am-4pm and is right in the centre of town.
You can get a bus from Windermere to Ulverston.

There are not many a day so plan ahead! It's a nice journey along the side of Lake Windermere though so enjoy the ride...

Kirkstone Pass

Stunning views from the highest road in Cumbria. If you don't fancy walking (the weather isn't always great in October!) its a great way to get out and explore the area. For more information see:

This place is awesome. Really friendly, great food and drink and wonderful views. You should stay over here if you have the time. It's an amazing way to escape for a couple of nights and there are brilliant walks right on your doorstep.

Short walk and a swim

29/10/2009

This is a great walk - it's about half an hour up to the top. You get incredible views up there and no tourists. There is a tarn where you can go for a wonderful dip. It is not as cold as the lake as it is shallower.

Here are some walk suggestions: http://www.go4awalk.com/userpics/stephendawson3.php

Park where the marker is and walk from there...

Great local pub nearby

29/10/2009

This is an ideal place to warm up after you swim! Say hi to the owner from me, and they've promised to give you a drink on the house :-))
Enjoy the roaring fires, local ales and huge portions of filling fodder.
Beware of the locals as the evening sets in - they are likely to get a bit rowdy! Great if you're up for a good time.

Grizedale Forest

31/10/2009

Spend a day in Grizedale forest, walking through the beautiful wood. You can get there by taking the ferry across the Lake and then enjoy the New Forest Cafe project. A beautiful day out.

They specialise in seasonal local foods and have a wonderful picturesque setting.
