Hi, I'm Sally, founder of Tripbod.
I live and work out of Cumbria and love the area, as well as helping people see the real side of this popular tourism destination
I was born and brought up in South Lakes and am becoming a big fan of West Cumbria. It's wild scenery and vast valleys are intoxicating on both a sunny clear day and a blustery winter afternoon.
My personal loves include walking, with regular stops at great local pubs, and doing slightly out-of-the-ordinary things... for example I am a real aficionado of outdoor swimming and this year have already swum in Coniston Water (January) and in the Lune River (March). Quite refreshing!
Some unique local experiences I can help you to plan are:
- A local ale trail by rail
- Wild swimming in lakes and rivers
- Going to folk music festivals in the middle of the hills
- Having a feast of great local produce
- Having a go at making your own local food
Ask me about these experiences and anything else in my area - I'd love to help you plan your perfect trip!
One of my favourite things about living in Cumbria is the local food and drink and great local produce in general. My favourites include local sausages and black pudding, Morecambe Bay shrimps and Herdwick Lamb. I'm also known to enjoy a small damson gin here and there.
If you had to describe me in three words I think they would be: enthusiastic, adventurous and busy.
I would love to share with you my Lake District, a very different one to that normally seen by tourists. My Cumbria is one of wild adventures to lesser known areas; underground arts and culture; star gazing in fields next to a bonfire; and warming up next to an open fire with a pint of local ale
If this sounds like your kind of place too, do get in touch.
Snowy Cumbria - very much open for adventure! As a Cumbria Tripbod I feel it is my role to get out there and experience the best of the area. It's about making the most of what's on your doorstep and discovering new adventures all the time. Currently we are experiencing heavy snow (as across the whole country) and many people feel this stops the fun. Do I agree? Not a chance! This weekend has flown by because of all the fun we've had. So here was my Winter Adventure Weekend in Cumbria... in the snow
Something for adventurous campers!
These wonderful 'pods' are set in the stunning Satterthwaite woods and are a must for anyone looking to visit offbeat areas of the Lakes and yearn for something different when it comes to camping.
The Enchanted Chocolate Mine in Kirkby Lonsdale
This one is a must for a day out with the kids (or those of us who are young at heart!) Wandering into this gorgeous shop to buy some Christmas presents, it was a complete surprise to go downstairs and find a lovely whiskey and loose tea shop. Then... an even greater surprise - an enchanted chocolate mine! Follow the link to see what I mean...
Wild swimming in Cumbria this Summer
One of my favourite things to do in Cumbria is go swimming outdoors, and although I go throughout the year (January in Coniston... with ice!), for most it's an activity exclusively for summer! And there is no better way to cool off than take a dip in one of the many refreshing rivers and lakes or off one of the coastal beaches. Just remember to take all safety precautions which will ensure you have the best swim possible!
